In 2001 Tom Kershaw was offered the opportunity to create a restaurant and bar operation in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. That year the Marketplace was celebrating the 25th anniversary of its creation by the Rouse Company and the City of Boston back in 1976. The Marketplace was actually built in 1826 and served as a functioning marketplace for meat, poultry, eggs and butter until its renovation and redirection in 1976. Mr. Kershaw jumped at the opportunity to open a new facility in the Marketplace because he envisioned the opportunity to recreate the bar as it appeared on the set of Cheers. This would provide visitors to Boston an opportunity to visit the set as they had seen it on television. Having visited the set in Hollywood many times and actually appearing on two episodes of the show, Mr. Kershaw directed the construction of the bar to replicate the one seen on television. If you compare the pictures that are available of the set with the actual bar, you will see the similarity.

The location at Faneuil Hall Marketplace provides a lot more opportunity than just the reproduction of the bar. There is a café, a patio and a lower bar all designed to replicate the fun atmosphere that was originally found at the Bull & Finch Pub on Beacon Street and subsequently viewed worldwide on the TV series.
